SITE PLANS TO DEVELOP COMMONWEALTH’S LARGEST DESTINATION RESORT MOVE FORWARD WITH TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP

Tobyhanna Township Planning Commission Recommends
Pocono Manor Resort & Casino to Supervisors

POCONO MANOR, PA – Greg Matzel and his development team appeared before the Tobyhanna Township Planning Commission and local residents the evening of November 16 to answer specific questions regarding their site plan for Pocono Manor Resort Casino & Convention Center; the commonwealth’s most comprehensive and lucrative proposed gaming project. The proposed plan was passed with a recommendation to the Township Supervisors to review the project for approval.

“We are very pleased with the outcome of last night’s meeting. The planning commission had excellent questions and I feel very good about our ability to address the concerns of the township,” said Greg Matzel, principal of Pocono Manor Investors, LLP and President of Matzel Development. “Upon completion, this project will be the Commonwealth’s top revenue contributor and provide the entire state and the Pocono Mountain region with a destination resort that will be the East coast’s leading icon in leisure/hospitality properties.”

Several members of the planning commission were highly complimentary in noting the extraordinary care and level of detail Matzel’s engineering team, Pennoni Associates, provided in their site plans. Glenn Reiker commented on the site plan being among the best he has reviewed in his career.

“We recognize how important our project will become to the area. By attracting new tourists and new tourism dollars, we look to set new regional precedents in many different aspects. We offer a world-class 750 room hotel, a convention center with capacity for up to 6,000 people, entertainment facilities for audiences of 1,800 to 5,000 and an enclosed retail center that is 150 percent larger than the Crossings. All of this is in addition to the gaming operations. Not only does the project offer the region the highest employment opportunity, but also the overflow revenue that the Pocono Manor Resort Casino and Convention Center will provide to area businesses is the most significant of all the Commonwealth’s gaming applicants – bar none,” added Matzel.

Pocono Manor Resort Casino & Convention Center is the largest proposed project for a Pennsylvania Category 2 Gaming License, costing approximately $1.4 billion. Boasting a destination design, the 750-room hotel delivers the region’s first convention center with 120,000 sq. ft. of meeting and convention space or a 6,000-person capacity. Other features include a 1,800 seat theater and a 40,000 sq. ft., 5,000 seat arena that meets requirements to nationally broadcast its events, a 20,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art spa, a 30,000 sq. ft. indoor/outdoor pool, nine restaurants, five night club/lounges with live entertainment and a cutting-edge fitness center.

The hotel and casino will feature 36 holes of golf, including a new 18-hole championship golf course surrounding the proposed resort complex. A 12-acre man-made lake will affront the hotel. Adjacent to the hotel, customers will be able to park in one of over 6,500 parking spaces (both surface and garage) or utilize one of the onsite or offsite shuttle busses servicing Pocono Manor and other area attractions.
